Hurricane Sandy Annual Leave Bank Program

As a result of the catastrophic impact Hurricane Sandy had on many CUNY employees, The City University of New York, recognized there may be employees who need to take annual leave in order to attend to emergent conditions, but may not have sufficient leave to do so.

Consequently, The University has created a program limited to dealing with the effects of Sandy, known as The City University of New York Hurricane Sandy Emergency Relief Annual Leave Bank Program. ("The Bank"). Under the program, each college will create a pool of annual leave voluntarily donated by full-time, annual salary employees, to be used by eligible full-time or part-time/hourly employees. Eligible recipients may receive up to five (5) days of paid annual leave from the "bank" for use during the period of November 1, 2012 through February 28, 2013.

Employees who are interested in the program can visit the Human Resources page on the York College website, and click on the link titled, "CUNY'S HURRICANE SANDY ANNUAL LEAVE BANK PROGRAM."

Feel free to stop by the Office of Human Resource Services located in AC-2H01 for additional information.

NYC Service Volunteer Opportunities (in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy)

Please see this message on volunteer opportunities from CUNY Vice Chancellor Jay Hershenson.

There are two City of New York sites that explain volunteer opportunities through NYC Service. The first link is more directly related to Hurricane Sandy. For now, the City site lists volunteer opportunities with the City's Parks and Recreation Agency. For any other volunteer opportunities, it directs visitors to fill out a form which is basically name, email, phone # and borough to match volunteers up with opportunities as they arise. The second City site, is more general and lists volunteer opportunities with other non-profits in the City (i.e. NYC Coalition Against Hunger). There is some overlap between the two sites. For the purposes of volunteering in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, people should use the first link directly below.

FYI - New York City needs your Blank! Is the motto for NYC Service. NYC Services leaves it up to the volunteer to fill in what they have to offer - time, skills, etc.
