Why is this migration happening?

The migration is more of an upgrade to the existing Hotmail platform. Outlook Live is Microsoft's hosted suite of email and collaboration tools based on the best-in-class features of the Microsoft Exchange technology.

What will be migrated?

All e-mails in your mailbox, including the folder structure. Additionally all your contacts will be migrated.

What is not migrated?

Your calendar information will not be migrated

You can continue to use your Windows Live Calendar by going to the Live website at https://calendar.live.com or you can manually transfer your calendar data from Windows Live calendar to Outlook Live calendar. For information on how to do this go to this link: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/gg603692.aspx. This link will show you how to transfer data from a Windows Live Calendar to your new Outlook or Outlook web app.

Your E-mail signatures

These will have to be recreated

Messages that are larger than 35 MB

If you have messages or attachments larger than 35 MB in size the solution is to save these over to your SkyDrive. Nothing is going to happen to the SkyDrive as it is an independant service. SkyDrive remains available to you at http://skydrive.live.com. This migration process does not touch skydrive service or content.

Mailboxes that are larger than 10 GB are only partially migrated

If your mailbox is over 10 GB in size only a portion of it can be migrated. The solution to this is to save large attachments from emails in your mailbox to your SkyDrive which will not be affected by this migration as it is an independant service.

Can I use my YorkLive account during the migration?

All email services will remain fully available while the technical work is performed in the background. You will continue to login to your account via the York login page at http://www.york.cuny.edu/it/webteam/live using the same credentials. The only change is the look and feel of the new service. As the migration progresses, you might notice your messages trickling into your inbox.
