The Electronic Portfolio and Social Networking Hub for York Students
ePortfolios@York is a new online community for e-portfolio and social networking at York College. It is a place for students to make academic, social, and professional connections. All registered students can log in to ePortfolios@York, create a profile, an e-portfolio and a blog, and create or join one or more online groups in the social network.
With ePortfolios@York, students can use the latest Web 2.0 technologies to easily maintain a web presence and connect to other students.
The username and password you will use are the same as those you use to log on to the College network. If you do not know your username and/or password, or have forgotten it, please contact the helpdesk (helpdesk@york.cuny.edu or x5300).
Technical Terminologies
- WordPress MU
- It is a technology platform for blogs. It is used by York College for students' blogs and ePortfolios.
- Category
- The general topic in which the post can be classified. Generally, bloggers have 7-10 categories for their content. Readers can browse specific categories to see all posts in the category. Quoting http://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_Posts
- Pages & Posts
- You can write either posts or pages. When you're writing a regular blog entry, you write a post. Posts automatically appear in reverse chronological order on your blog's home page. Pages, on the other hand, are for content such as "About Me," "Contact Me," etc. Quoting http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages.
- Theme
- A Theme is a collection of files that work together to produce a graphical interface with an underlying unifying design for a weblog. Quoting http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes.
- Widgets
- It is designed to provide a simple way to arrange the various elements of your sidebar content (known as "widgets") without having to change any code. Quoting http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/WordPress_Widgets.
- Tag
- It refers to micro-categories for your blog, similar to including index entries for a page. Posts with similar tags are linked together when a user clicks one of the tags.
