This presentation will examine the life of an African American Chaplain during World War II through an analysis of his mandatory, periodic reports, as well as the letters which he wrote home from 1942 to 1945. By exploring his letters and his Chaplain’s Reports - both within the context of the oral history interviews with his surviving daughter and charter members of 2nd Baptist Church of Patterson, New Jersey – the lecture addresses several themes regarding military veterans of the 1940s.
