Created in 1970 by John Conway, the Game of Life is a cellular automaton
based on very simple rules. Many people, from amateurs to professional
researchers, have contributed to the Game over the past 38 years. A
variety of interesting patterns and behaviors will be introduced. If time
permits a comparison between the Game and general purpose computing will be made. To facilitate calculating new generations from old a computer program will be employed. The audience will have an opportunity, either through suggestions and/or direct interaction, to explore the Game of Life.
This will be a self-contained talk. No prior knowledge is required.
Refreshments will be served.
