Winners will be determined by our award winning panel of judges.

Eligible participants include: soloists, ensembles, choirs.

Community groups/organizations are welcome.

An original excerpt of this play was experimentally presented as a work in progress as part of a performance panel of Latina solo performers for the Latino Artists Round Table (LART) conference celebrated in New York in 2003. It was fully developed into its actual version thanks to the Instituto de Arte y Teatro Internacional playwriting workshop. Lágrimas Negras delves into the traditions of melodrama, radio soap operas, tabloids, and gossip shows to look at a life of tribulation as experienced by a young black woman, unknowingly the product of an interracial marriage.
