The NYC water supply system is a remarkable engineering design. Mainly operated by gravity, it is a huge source for pure drinking water (close to 1 billion gallons a day) for almost nine million people. The newest and largest capital construction project ever undertaken by the City of New York is City Water Tunnel # 3, and York’s own Naz Khandaker is an integral part of this vital project. His talk, the inaugural lecture in the new Provost’s Lecture Series, will be highlighted by virtual rock cores and photographs, and will center on the role of geology in this capital construction project and its bearing on the supply of pure drinking water for New Yorkers.

Refreshments will be served.
