York College Big Band Spring Concert http://www.york.cuny.edu/events/yc-big-band-spring-concert10 The York College Big Band is the college-level jazz ensemble at York College/CUNY in Jamaica, Queens. The Big Band is a product of the Jazz Workshop, which is a two-credit class. The band performs periodically throughout the semester and is an integral part of the York College Jazz Forum. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. Please contact the York College Big Band director Tom Zlabinger at tzlabing@york.cuny.edu or (718) 262-2412 if you are interested in attending a rehearsal or would like further information on the York College Big Band.

In addition to performances on campus, the York College Big Band has performed at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, Medgar Evers College, the Poppenhusen Institute, Queens College, and annually at the CUNY Jazz Festival at City College. In April of 2006, the York College Big Band was featured in Weltreisen on the German television station ARD.

Through her characters, Davis challenges her audience to write their own life stories; and ultimately asks the audience to define for themselves what is most important in life; the things acquired and recorded or the things that are “Unwritten.”
 
A masterful writer, performer and “multiple personality” Davis captures the entire range of human experience in each of her characters – including an 8-year old girl, a Vietnam veteran and a woman living with a disability.
 
Also an accomplished singer, Davis infuses her work with a blend of songs that further showcase her diverse talent and add to the universality of her characters and her message.
