Hailed by the New York Times as a “flash of beauty and inspiration”, Dr. April Lynn James is a lyric mezzo-soprano with a PhD in Music from Harvard University.

Her exhibit for the Loeb Music Library, In Her Own Hand: Operas Composed by Women 1625–1913, was the first in an American library on this subject. She specializes in 18th-century music, and spent a year in Germany, courtesy of a DAAD Annual Grant, researching the music and life of Maria Antonia, Electress of Saxony.

April always wanted to grow up to be Errol Flynn. No surprise, then, that she now enjoys playing the gallant young men featured in 18th- century Italian opera, characters such as Cherubino, Idamante and Orfeo. Her performance awards include an Urban Artists Initiative/NYC Fellowship and a Queens Council on the Arts Individual Artist Grant. In addition to the article in the Times, articles featuring her have appeared in the New York Daily News, Time Out New York and other publications.

Emmett Louis Till was born in Chicago Il, on July 25, 1941. Shortly after his birth, his parents Louis and Mamie separated leaving Mamie as the sole parent. In 1955, Emmett and his cousin went to visit family in Mississippi.

His mother, conscious of the prejudice and racism rampant in Mississippi, instructed Emmett to “mind his manners” around white people. According to some, Emmett whistled at a white woman. Others say he grabbed her hand and asked for a date. Still others claim he said, “Bye, baby” as he left the store. What followed remains as one of the most brutal and senseless accounts of American racial violence in our history. The Lynching of Emmett Till explores the tragic death of this innocent and well-loved young boy and the powerful impact it had upon the emerging American Civil Rights movement.

To begin the Spring semester of the 2010-2011 Season, the York College Theatre present’s an evening of comic jems exploring the pleasures and perversities of contemporary life in ALL IN THE TIMING.

All In The Timing consists of nine zany comedies all linked through the theme of time, communication and relationships. Playwright David Ives, a John Gassner Playwrighting Award winner, takes the audience on a veritable roller coaster of excitement and exploration. All in the Timing was the surprise comedy hit of the 1994 Off-Broadway theatre season in New York. Vincent Canby of the New York Times says the show is "like sketches for some hilarious, celestially conceived revue. The writing is not only very funny, but has the density of thought and precision of poetry. All In The Timing is by a master of fun. David Ives spins hilarity out of words." This production contains mature language and adult situations, and is not recommended for very young audiences.

Under the direction of Professor Timothy J. Amrhein, this production will feature the evocative set designs of faculty member David T. Jones, built by York College students under the direction of CLT G. Lawrence Belcon. It also features vivid lighting of guest designer, Daniel Winters. CLT, Jessica Pecharsky, member of Actor’s Equity Association, rounds off the list as production/stage manager.

The cast of ALL IN THE TIMING features York College students: Jasmaine Calizaire, Alex Constantinides, Fabella Decema, Kimberly Ferrer, Freddy Gonzalez, Joe Grasso, Jarrel Lynch, Sebrena Mason, Bukola Ogunmola, Ryshon Shepherd, Bernard Smith, Kimberly Sooklall & Phil Williams. Also involved are Assistant Directors, Kevin Fandino and La-Toya Mason; and Assistant Stage Manager Annmargaret Centeno.

Performances begin March 18 at 4PM, and continue running March 19 at 8PM; March 20 at 3PM; and conclude March 22 at 12Noon.
