    <description>"Foreign Workers and Israeli-Jewishness Dilemma,"</description>
    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Over the last twenty years, more than 300,000 non-Jewish, non-Arab migrants (known as ‘foreign workers’) and their children have taken up residency in Israel and become increasingly part of Israeli quotidian life. Their presence challenges the State of Israel, Israeli society and the migrants themselves to think about the borders between Jewishness and Israeliness. The study of the Israeli case can potentially provide insight for other ethnic states with burgeoning migrant populations.</p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Speech Communication professor, <a class="external-link" href="http://www.york.cuny.edu/Members/portal_college/metcalf-eric">Dr. Eric Metcalf </a>will open the Spring 2012 Provost's Lecture Series with a presentation entitled, "Will Write Later."  This lecture showcases a unique collection of postcards manufactured between 1906 and 1915. Most of the cards were exchanged between two sisters – one still living in their hometown of Pawtucket, R.I., the other on Nantucket, an island off the Massachusetts coast.</p>
<p>Although photographic imagery had been relatively commonplace for fifty years, the color postcards were among the first visual media to have reached a mass audience. The cards depict an American nation in technological and social transition on the cusp of World War I.</p>]]></content:encoded>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<h2 class="p1"><strong>VSV Vectored HIV Vaccine Odyssey: </strong><strong>From Lab to Clinic</strong></h2>
<p class="p1">Viruses such as HIV-1 replicate within cells. Immune recognition of an intra-cellular infection results in a response characterized by both antibody immunity capable of blocking virus entry into cells and Cell-Mediated Immunity capable of killing virus infected cells.</p>
<p class="p1">This lecture will trace the 10-year development pathway of an HIV-1 vaccine based on a recombinant Vesicular Stomatitis Virus vector, the first replication competent recombinant virus vaccine to enter the clinic.</p>
<p class="p1">Topics to be discussed will include theresearch, development, and regulatory challenges in the development of this vaccine candidate.</p>]]></content:encoded>
