Constitution Day http://www.york.cuny.edu/events/constitution-day-1 Every year, colleges and universities across the country are asked to create events to remember the Constitution under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2005, Public Law 108-447 (the most recent iteration of the law on Constitution Day). This year, we have the pleasure of hosting Roy Fox from the Rufus King Manor. Mr. Fox is a longtime radio personality and expert on the Constitution and Jamaica's own Rufus King. (Senator King was a framer of the Constitution and played a pivotal role in the early stages of the abolition movement. His home, open to the public, is located on Jamaica Avenue, just blocks from York College.) Joseph Salzone from YCRadio.org will interview Mr. Fox. The session will be conducted like a talk show and we invite all of the York College community (students, faculty, staff and friends) to come and learn about the Constitution and ask questions about the Constitution then and now.

Please come -- and invite your students to come -- and join us for what promises to be an interesting talk about the Constitution.

Light refreshments will be served. Small gifts will also be distributed (while supplies last!)

The Topic will be “The Impact of State and Municipal Budget Cuts on Education,” (higher education with an emphasis on CUNY and public education with all the discussion of teacher lay-offs, changing tenure/seniority system, merit pay, etc). 

Once again, the broadcast is being presented in conjunction with YC-Radio and the Men’s Center. WWRL is committed to doing a live broadcast from York once every 4-6 weeks. Suggestions for future broadcasts are more than welcome.

All are welcome to attend, but we need all participants in place by 10:30 AM for the 11-12 LIVE Broadcast. 

]]> No publisher Miguel Bernard Current Student Student Development YCRadio 2011-03-22T19:25:22Z Event Dr. Ron Daniels to Broadcast from York College http://www.york.cuny.edu/events/dr.-ron-daniels-to-broadcast-from-york-college Dr. Ron Daniels, York College Distinguished Lecturer and radio talk show host on WWRL 1600 AM, will broadcast his show, An Hour with the Professor. The principal focus of the broadcast will be the crisis in Egypt, with a particular emphasis on the role of students and young people in the revolt that has rocked the country in the past week.

Dr. Daniels will interview Professor Mahbubur Rahman, Assistant Professor and Adjunct Instructor in the Behavioral Sciences Department who teaches Middle East Politics for the Political Science discipline. The interview with Professor Rahman will be followed by questions and comments from York students and the listening audience. Dr. Daniels is very eager to hear the perspectives of York students regarding such a momentous development in a critical region of the world in terms of U.S. vital interests.

The broadcast is being supported by YCRadio.org (the show will be rebroadcast over YCRadio.org) with the assistance of Anthony Andrews and the Men's Center under the direction of Jonathan Quash. Dr. Daniels serves as an Advisor to YCRadio.org and the Men's Center.

Students, faculty and staff who wish to participate and/or observe the broadcast should plan to be in the Atrium by 10:30 AM.  The broadcast goes live at 11:00 AM sharp.
