Additional materials from the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) will be available for students, as well as light food and beverages.

No publisher John scarinci Health and Physical Education 2011-03-22T18:01:52Z Event Men's Tennis Vs Yeshiva http://www.york.cuny.edu/events/mens-tennis-vs-yeshiva No publisher John scarinci Athletics Health and Physical Education 2011-01-25T19:30:00Z Event York Athletics To Hold 80'S Dance-A-Thon To Benefit "Samaritan's Feet" http://www.york.cuny.edu/events/york-athletics-to-hold-802019s-dance-a-thon-to-benefit-201csamaritan2019s-feet201d The York College Student Athletics Advisory Committee, together with the York Athletics program, will hold an 80’s Dance-a-thon on Friday November 5th at 7:00 p.m. 50 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to the couple that can dance the longest, while the other 50 percent will go to "Samaritan’s Feet," an organization dedicated to distributing footwear to underprivileged children around the world. The event, which is open to the public and will be held in the York College Gymnasium, will go throughout the night into Saturday or until the last couple is left standing on the dance floor.  The cost is $20 per couple in advance and $25 at the door.   Refreshments will be served.  People who attend are asked to wear 80’s clothes, although many different types of music will be played throughout the evening.

York Athletics will also be accepting children’s sneakers as donations to Samaritan’s Feet.  The sneakers must be new in order to be sent overseas.  For more information on Samaritan’s Feet, visit their web site at www.samaritansfeet.org.

]]> No publisher Rafael Nunez Athletics Health and Physical Education 2010-10-20T13:55:00Z Event World Mental Health Day http://www.york.cuny.edu/events/world-mental-health-day The event will provide a speaker to discuss the topic: "The Rising Incidents of Suicide among College Students: A Public Health Concern in NYC" This program promotes and raises awareness of current issues related to human rights within the college and the larger community.  It coincides with the celebration of World Mental Health Day.   It hopes to promote suicide prevention as an integral part of  York's ongoing campus activities and services. The event will present a recognizable picture of depression and other problems associated with suicide, as they are commonly experienced by college students and other young adults.  

It aims to:  

  1. identify cultural barriers to suicide prevention;
  2. create public awareness of depression as treatable and suicide as preventable; and 
  3. discuss the clinical and global aspects of suicide.
