No publisher Lesley-Ann Bailey Freshman Health Professions Health Promotion Center Health Services Center Health and Economics Public Visitors 2010-11-03T17:49:37Z Event World Mental Health Day http://www.york.cuny.edu/events/world-mental-health-day The event will provide a speaker to discuss the topic: "The Rising Incidents of Suicide among College Students: A Public Health Concern in NYC" This program promotes and raises awareness of current issues related to human rights within the college and the larger community.  It coincides with the celebration of World Mental Health Day.   It hopes to promote suicide prevention as an integral part of  York's ongoing campus activities and services. The event will present a recognizable picture of depression and other problems associated with suicide, as they are commonly experienced by college students and other young adults.  

It aims to:  

  1. identify cultural barriers to suicide prevention;
  2. create public awareness of depression as treatable and suicide as preventable; and 
  3. discuss the clinical and global aspects of suicide.
