Dear Colleagues of Jack Schlein:

On March 14th, beginning at 6:30pm, we will be honoring Jack Schlein on his “retirement” at a gala dinner in the faculty dining room of York College, with our own Ron Thomas as master of ceremonies. We say retirement with the affection and skepticism we felt when we honored Leslie Lewis last year. Like Leslie, Jack isn’t really retired since, as he leaves the classroom, he will continue advising York’s pre-med students.

We are writing as a student and a colleague of Jack’s, and as members of the Board of the York College Foundation, to ask you to celebrate Jack’s career and to help ensure the bright future of the natural sciences at York College. Like Leslie, he does not want gifts, nor is he looking for a memorial bearing his name. Instead, you can contribute to the Natural Sciences Scholarship Fund initiated last year by Leslie and his celebrants. If you cannot attend, please give generously. All monies apart from the $35 cost of the dinner will go right to the Fund.

York has graduated 21 Salk Scholars since its inception in 1971, including a triple crown of Scholars in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Our students have been awarded Merck UNCF scholarships and other prestigious awards. Our partnership with the FDA’s Northeast Regional Laboratory, located on our campus, opens many doors. Help us to open more.

Thank you for your generosity,

Andrew C.
