The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) York College/CUNY Chapter, Aviation Club at York College, and Women in Aviation York College/CUNY Chapter are having their first NextGen Networking Night. NextGen is very vital to our nation’s air transportation system in which 21st century technologies will help increase safety and efficiency around our congested airports. This is an event that will feature speakers from the Federal Aviation Administration, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and JetBlue. Alongside the panelists, are a number of notable guests as well as students who will be in attendance.

What is NextGen?

An antiquated air traffic control system that is dependent on ground-based radar technology is threatening the efficiency of our airports and stifling economic growth. The Federal Aviation Administration’s Next Generation Air Transportation System - called NextGen - will alleviate delays at the nation’s most congested and delay-prone airports but is years away from full implementation.

NextGen is the transformation of the National Airspace System from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management, utilizing a portfolio of policy, procedures and 21st-century technology.
