The New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC),in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, is sending staff to conduct a retail-demand survey in Downtown Jamaica, Queens on Thursday, October 25^th. At least one  member of their staff will be on York’s campus to conduct random interviews regarding the matter.

The purpose of the study is to get a better understanding of how the retail available in Downtown Jamaica does (or does not) meet the current needs of students and employees who regularly spend time in this part of Jamaica. .

The survey is part of a larger EDC/City Hall study; and will assess ways to work with local stakeholders to improve not only retail, but related uses (i.e., restaurants and theaters) to make Jamaica Avenue more of a vibrant weekend and evening destination.
