The United Nations celebrates Earth Day, which was founded by US Senator, Gaylord Nelson, each year on the March equinox, while a global observance in many countries is held each year.

York College will be celebrating Earth Day on May 8th.  In collaboration with York College Plant student club, the Green Initiative Committee is hosting its first GREEN FESTIVAL for students, faculty/staff and the community! Here are some of the scheduled activities: 

  • Information and Resource Table: Newsletter highlighting our must recent green success and tips as to how to go green, such as Hybrid Parking Information, Bike Racks and Bike Rental Info, Royal Waste Recycling.  The Information Table will also have Green Give-a-ways (t-shirts for volunteers, temporary tattoos for students and faculty/staff, prices for contests).
  • Students’ planting of trees and flowers
  • Green Market: Farmers have been invited to sell their products at the College main entrance.
  • Entertainments:
    • A movie: Inconvenient Truth in room 2M0?
    • Games, puzzles, prices!
    • Music
