College NOW Graduation Ceremony
from 09:00 AM to 12:30 PM
College Now at York College has been offering summer programs to talented and qualified high schools students since summer 2002. This year, over 80 students studied in college credits classes in Astronomy, Psychology, Music and Fine Arts as well as in an introductory aviation class that includes the actual piloting of an airplane.
The final ceremony for this Sixth Annual Summer College Now program is Thursday, August 9, 2007, at 9 a.m. in the Academic Core Building’s atrium, 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, Queens. At the ceremony, students will make special presentations to honor distinguished guests, the Tuskegee Airmen. Eight Tuskegee Airmen have confirmed their attendance (with more expected): Lee Archer, Dr. Roscoe Brown, Victor Terrelonge, Humphrey Patton, Bill Wheeler, Clayton Lawrence, Edmund Monroe and Spann Watson.
“The story of the Tuskegee Airmen, their tenacity, heroics and achievements have inspired generations of Americans,” said President Marcia V. Keizs. “It is thrilling to have them join us and engage both students and parents in conversation on such an occasion.”
The aviation students will share their flight experiences; the music students, all accomplished musicians, will dedicate a big band jazz performance; and the fine arts students will present each airman with an original work of art inspired by the lives of the Tuskegee Airmen.
