The eldest daughter of immigrant parents from Spain, Dr. Lidia Gonzalez grew up in Queens, New York. She attended New York University where she obtained both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education. Lidia then worked for seven years as a high school mathematics teacher in a NYC public school. In 2001 she began her doctoral studies at the CUNY Graduate Center in the Urban Education Department. There she also worked as a MetroMath@CUNY doctoral fellow on a study of alternatively certified mathematics teachers in New York City. Her dissertation focuses on the teaching of mathematics for social justice at the secondary school level. Lidia Gonzalez is very much looking forward to a rewarding career as a professor in the Mathematics and Computer Studies department serving the students of York College.
