Entering Students Scholarships

Opportunities at York College include an honors program and a number of scholarship opportunities.

York College offers a number of scholarships to ambitious and academically talented freshmen and transfer students.

Transfer Scholarships are for outstanding students completing their associate's degree with a cumulative 3.25 GPA. Entry to merit-based programs is for the fall semester only.

Scholarship Award Amount Description

York College Foundation Scholarships

Annual award $1,000 - $2,000

Admitted students are automatically screened for these awards as follows:

Merit-based awards designed to acknowledge hardworking and motivated students with solid academic preparation.

Fall Freshmen, Award amount is dependent on the strength of the high school record.

Transfer students, with completed Associate Degrees, and admitted to York College are automatically screened for these awards as follows:

Honors Scholarship
Full tuition paid annually , Laptop computer, and an expense account to cover study abroad expenses, conferences, and events related to your research. Fall Freshmen:
Honor Scholars are also part of the Honors program that is interdisciplinary in nature and comprises honors seminars, honors supplemental courses, an honors thesis, faculty mentoring and attendance at special events each semester.

Melinda  Cokley-Szlapak Award

$1,000

The purpose of this award is to memorialize alumna Melinda Cokley-Szlapak with an award to recognize a transfer student

This scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees, and personal expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Transfer student
  2. Attended a New York City public high school
  3. Preference will be given to student from South Jamaica NY or vicinity
  4. Preference for political science major or, if no qualifying political science candidates, liberal arts, sciences, nursing, social sciences or education.

Donor wants to be informed of who applied and who received this award.

Recipient must write a thank-you note to donor.

York College/FDA Scholars Program

$8,000 annually , Laptop computer, and an internship with the FDA, the only regional office on a CUNY campus.

Students with exceptional academic credentials and an interest in pursuing majors in Biology or Chemistry are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualified students may intern at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the only regional office on a CUNY campus.

Freshman Scholarship Application is required by March15

Transfer Scholarship Application is required by April 1 for fall admission; November 1 for spring admission

Dr. Che-Tsao Huang Scholarship Full amount of interest on endowment earned in previous 12 months.

The  purpose of this award is to encourage and recognize an outstanding Communications Technology graduate; presented at awards ceremony.

This scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees and personal expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. High grade point average relative to peers in CT program’
  2. Outstanding senior project
Service to CT program

Peter ValloneScholarship

Amount Varies For students who have graduated from a New York City high school within the past twelve months. Students must have maintained a B average in high school, completed at least 12 academic units, and must enroll as a full-time college student.

Dennis Moorman Scholarship

One award of $750.00 to cover two semesters
  • Full-time matriculated student or high school graduate.
  • Able to read music, sing or play an instrument with emphasis in Jazz.
  • Live in the Tri-State area.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
