    <description>This award is in honor of Dr. Frank Pomilla, Emeritus Professor of Physics and a founding member of York College. He was the first chair of the original Department of Natural Sciences. He retired from York in 1992. With the assistance of his colleagues and friends, his children have established this award in honor of Dr. Pomilla’s love of and dedication to York College and its students. The purposes of this award are to recognize academic excellence and to provide financial aid to students who have made a commitment to teach science, especially physics.</description>

<p><a name="_GoBack"></a>The Dr. Frank Pomilla Award aims to recognize and provide financial support to a rising senior who has declared Physics or another Natural Science as his/her major with the goal of teaching science.  The award is $1,000.00 and it will be presented at the Annual York College Honors Ceremony.</p>
<h2 id="110be9af-08a5-47dc-9d64-5e6ad7acfdf8">Eligibility</h2>
<ul id="7f22d700-3c7a-480f-b08c-017c5d6a1953">
<li id="76d1cddf-6d48-4097-b5d1-dd5837882f09">
<p>Student 	must be full-time rising senior (at least 85 credits completed) with 	at least 60 credits completed at York College.</p>
</li>
<li id="399395c9-385f-4ba3-94cd-5239ca6cb641">
<p>Student 	must be a Natural Science major, preferably in Physics, with a minor 	in education.</p>
</li>
<li id="0c850cda-972e-44cf-a3ff-e61cf4713908">
<p>Students 	must have a 3.50 GPA or higher in the major at the time of the 	award.</p>
</li>
<li id="f3c2f075-ca7c-4c65-af31-a77b3c1354fa">
<p>Student 	should also have an overall GPA of 3.50 or higher or otherwise be a 	strong candidate with strong letters of recommendation from faculty 	in science and in education.</p>

<p>To be eligible for our College Awards, applicants must send a completed <a href="http://www.york.cuny.edu/assets/2011-nylprw-college-award-form.pdf" class="internal-link" title="2011 NYLPRW College Award Form">2011 College Award Application Form </a>or mail to Edith Padilla, President, NYLPRW, INC. P.O. Box 268, Patchogue, N.Y. 11772-0268 by the deadline date of June 4, 2011, and meet all of the following 
criteria:&nbsp;</p>
<p>Comply with all of the six (6) requirements&nbsp;below.</p>
<ol><li>Currently matriculated as an undergraduate student in 
an accredited institution of higher education, having earned a minimum 
of 12 accumulated credits.</li><li>Maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 with no failing grades.</li><li>Demonstrate service to the community.</li><li>Provide an official college transcript.</li><li>Provide two letters of recommendation from a professor, college</li><li>Submit a 4″ by 6″ color photo of the applicant in 
appropriate attire, for inclusion in our Commemorative Dinner Dance 
Journal.</li></ol>
