Vocalist Carla Cook

Carla Cook is daring. She is a jazz singer, songwriter who sings standards beautifully but Ms. Cooke is willing to put a jazz spin on songs not written by traditional jazz composers.

Songs that, until you hear her sing them, you'd never imagine could be interpreted as jazz. This native Detroiter, who grew up in a musically rich and diverse environment, brings all her influences to bear within her repertoire. In her songbook you'll find elements of R&B, European classical, Motown, Blues and Gospel. Cook has always eschewed labels, and refuses to become a jazz purist or snob. Her willingness to simply sing what she loves, bringing an earthy sophistication to every song, and that is what gives Cook her signature style.

The Natraj Center for the Performing Arts, a not-for-profit organization, traces its origins to the renowned Natraj Cultural Group, which was founded in 1989 by a group of mothers led by Barbara Lemoine whose initial objective was to support a group of young dancers to perform innovative and creative dances.

Today, Natraj proudly continues to provide a forum where our youth can hone their talents and nurture their creativity both collectively and as individuals. These young artistes share their knowledge of their rich Indian culture and heritage with the youths of the community through classes and workshops in dance, drama and music. Natraj currently conducts regular dance classes in Queens Village, NY.

Throughout the years, Natraj has assisted, and continues to assist, many cultural and religious organizations in their efforts to promote cultural awareness and respect through professional performances at various social functions, fundraisers and cultural events. Garnering international recognition, Natraj conducts annual dance workshops in Jamaica, W.I. and has performed in Canada, Guyana, Trinidad and Jamaica.

All Natraj teachers and senior performers have been classically trained by respected professionals in the Indian Classical Dance tradition, and their areas of expertise include Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Odissi, and folk dances, as well as the more popular Bollywood film and pop genres.

No doubt, every time Tito Jr. walks on stage – he walks in his father's footsteps. He dances in celebration, throws his head back in pure joy and lights up the room with that oh-so-familiar smile. Tito Jr. is on a passionate mission. The younger Puente is determined to nurture the musical legacy left by his father. He refuses to let it become a distant memory; "He was just too vibrant, too exciting. There was magic in the music my father made. It made people happy, all over the world. My goal is to keep it alive, and in doing so, expose it to a whole new generation."

One of the greatest percussion ensembles in the world, the Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi have performed in the same way for centuries, passing down traditions and techniques from father to son.

Their performances were traditionally a part of particular ceremonies, such as births, funerals and the enthronement of Kings. In Burundi, drums are sacred and represent, along with the king, the powers of fertility and regeneration. The origins of their performance being shrouded in ancient legend and mystery, the Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi channel the energy and creative spirit of a nation through these drums and the rituals surrounding them.
