The Honors Program at York College

The Honors Program at York College seeks to provide academic, cultural and social opportunities to enhance the intellectual development of serious, highly able and motivated students.

Thursday, March 19, 12:00 p.m.:  Deans List Ceremony

Tuesday, March 24, 12:00 p.m. :  Our Lady of 121st Street  Honors Students attend York College Theatre Company's production of Stephen Adly Guirgis' acclaimed comic portrait of the graduates of a Harlem Catholic school reunited at the funeral of a beloved teacher. 

Thursday, March 26, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Honors Program Open House  The Honors Program invites the campus community to its open house.  Come by our cozy office inside 3E07B to learn about all the opportunities the York College Honors Program provides York's best and brightest.

Thursday, April 16, 12:00 p.m.  Honors Meeting A conversation on Edward Said's Representations of the Intellectual (1994).  Honors Lounge.  Open to members only.

About The Honors Program

The Honors Program at York College is designed to provide students opportunities for research and exploration in a wide array of courses, in multiple disciplines as well as interdisciplinary learning experiences.

Students accepted to the program will be engaged in challenging classroom discussions within designated honors courses, and will be introduced to a wide array of topics by means of their attendance at seminars, lectures and cultural programs, both on and off campus. 

The experience of being part of a group of peers, and the rapport with faculty members and designated advisors, constitute fine ingredients for a truly rewarding learning experience.

Requirements to Apply

For High School Students/ Incoming Freshmen

  • 85 Average or Higher (Submit Official Transcript)
  • Academic Course of Study
  • Complete Application
  • Personal Statement
  • Writing Sample
  • Two Academic Letters of Recommendation

For Current and Transfer Students

  • Grade Point Average of 3.5 Higher
  • Complete Application
  • Personal Statement
  • Writing Sample
  • Two Academic Letters of Recommendation

The Academic Program

  • Attend One Cultural Event Per Semester
  • Attend One Extra-Curricular Academic Event Per Semester
  • Complete Three Honors-Contract Courses
  • Complete One Humanities 320 Seminar
  • Complete An Honors Thesis
  • Maintain A 3.5 Or Higher Grade PointAverage Each Semester
