Freshman Reader Program
The Freshman Reader Program is designed to provide first-year students with a shared academic experience and to introduce them into an educational community where intellectual engagement is fostered and valued.
The program utilizes a common book that all entering freshman are given and required to read during the summer. The book is then used in various freshman classes and activities during the academic year. Faculty members are invited to incorporate the book into their courses designed for first-year students during the fall and spring semesters.
For York College’s 2012 Freshman Reader Book:
- The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
- A novel about the struggles of an immigrant couple from India who try to form a new life in the United States.
Books will be available to review in the York College Library.
We thank you for voting for a book for the Freshman Reader program.
