We invite you to explore the possibilities open to students of studio art and art history in the Department of Performing and Fine Arts at York College. Imagine learning about all that Art has to offer and also being able to explore its world in the many studios and museums in the New York metropolitan area.
The discipline of Art & Art History offers two programs of study: Studio Art and Art History. We also offer a minor in Studio Art as well. Studio Art and Art History are chosen as majors both by students who see them as an excellent base for a liberal arts education and by those who have aspirations to graduate school and/or one of the many possible careers in the arts. Art History and Studio Art require classes from one another in their curriculums and thus, students can pursue their specific interests as well as develop a dimensional understanding of the nature of art.
Our strengths lie in the multicultural background of both our students and our faculty. The discipline of Art and Art History offers courses in subjects ranging from African American Art to Latin American Art. Some of the Studio Art courses include programs in printmaking, sculpture, drawing and painting, photography and graphic design. The discipline is housed in the York College Academic Core building and has its own studios, a slide library, classrooms, computer labs and its very own art gallery.
