Accreditation and Credentials
- The Occupational Therapy Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, P. O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220. AOTA’s phone number is (301) 652-AOTA.
Effective August 7, 2010, the accreditation status of the Occupational Therapy program has changed to Probationary, for nearing the end of the USDE-mandated time period for returning the program to compliance with 2006 OT Master’s-Level Standard A.5.4 (Certification Examination Pass Rates). This standard refers to first time pass rates within one year of graduation, and does not include passing the exam upon repeating, or first time pass rates beyond one year after graduation. Probationary Accreditation is an accreditation category. During a period of Probationary Accreditation, programs are recognized and listed as being accredited.
- The BS/MS in Occupational Therapy is conferred when the Department of Occupational Therapy requirements are fulfilled, including successful completion of all Occupational Therapy major discipline requirements, in addition to York College’s General Education Requirements for the Bachelor of Science Degree.
- Certification: Upon completion of all requirements, the graduate is permitted to sit for the certification examination of the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc.
- Licensure: Upon completion of all requirements, the graduate is permitted to apply to the New York State Education Department for licensure as a Registered Occupational Therapist.
Please note: A felony conviction may preclude an individual from taking the certifying examination and obtaining a license to practice.
