About Us

York College Department of Nursing offers two programs a Generic four year BS program and an RN to BS program for graduates of accredited degree-granting Associate or Diploma nursing programs who have passed the NCLEX-RN licensing examination.

Mission

The mission of the York College Department of Nursing is to offer a liberal arts-based educational experience to guide students in attaining the knowledge, skills, and values essential for professional nurse leaders and managers, including the ability to make sound judgments and address the health needs of diverse cultural groups within the urban community. There are two nursing program tracks in the Department of Nursing: The RN- Baccalaureate Program is designed to build upon the knowledge and competencies of Registered Nurses, who graduated from associate degree and diploma programs. The Generic Baccalaureate program is designed to prepare competent nursing professionals able to successfully pass the NCLEX-RN licensing examination. The Department of Nursing mission is congruent with the York College Vision and Mission.

The York College Department of Nursing Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the program the graduates will:

  1. Effectively communicate with diverse client populations and disciplines using a variety of strategies and respecting the client's cultural beliefs and practices.
  2. Make sound judgments that synthesize nursing science and knowledge from other disciplines in the provision of safe, quality nursing care.
  3. Collaborate with clients, families, health team members to assist clients in achieving optimal wellness.
  4. Advocate for health policies that address local and global health issues through participation in nursing organizations.
  5. Integrate a personal philosophy of professional nursing practice incorporating legal, moral and ethical standards.
  6. Assume responsibility and accountability for one's own education and nursing practice.
  7. Provide a safe environment using technology and information systems in nursing practice.
  8. Effectively manage patient care to ensure the best possible healthcare outcomes.
  9. Maintain a spirit of inquiry and use research findings to provide evidence-based nursing care resources

York College is ready to support your education and professional growth. The nursing courses are taught by Masters and Doctoral prepared registered nurses who have many years of clinical practice experience. The nursing club is a campus organization of pre-clinical and clinical nursing students designed to provide support, assistance, and collaboration during the student experience. Nursing Program Expected Outcomes

  1. Performance on license exam (Generic Nursing Program only) - Generic graduate NCLEX-RN pass rate will meet or exceed the National NCLEX-RN pass rate on the first attempt

  2. Program Completion - 80% of Generic nursing program students will complete the program in five semesters and 80% of RN-BS Completion program students will complete the program in four semesters. (100% of the program length)

  3. Job Placement - 80% of Generic Nursing Program graduates will be employed as registered nurses 6-12 months after graduation and 80% of RN-BS Completion graduates desiring a new position will attain the position 6-12 months after graduation.
