Intercollegiate Athletics

York College places the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational and athletic experiences of all student-athletes. In doing so, we seek to strengthen the integration of objectives and programs in athletics with academic and developmental objectives, and to assure the integration of athletes with other students.

Our main goal is to place special importance on the impact of athletics on the participants rather than on the spectators. The focus of York College intercollegiate athletics is centered around the students, alumni, and our surrounding community.

York intends to create an atmosphere that enables the individual to compete primarily for the love and enjoyment of sport and not solely for extrinsic awards. Our athletic program is characterized by the following:

  • Participation is encouraged by maximizing the number and variety of athletic opportunities in varsity, club, and intramural sports.
  • Participants receive the same treatment as other students. They have no unique privileges in admission, academic advising, course selection, grading or financial aid. Similarly, athletes are no denied rights and opportunities that would be available to them as non-athletes.

In staying within the compliance of the NCAA and Title IX, both men and women varsity sports are given equal opportunities and the desired quality of competition.
Students are supported in their efforts to reach high levels of performance by providing them with adequate facilities, competent coaching and appropriated competitive opportunities with students from similar institutions.
Provide administrative support, coaching staffs to instill leadership, and the role models necessary to convey a feeling of pride, team work, sound values of sportsmanship, and athletic traditions that will serve as future building blocks for our student-athletes.

Intramurals and Recreation

The Department of Health, Physical Education and Gerontological Studies & Services encourages the York College community to regularly participate in physical activity through the use of its facilities during scheduled recreation and intramural hours. Individuals are encouraged to pursue activities including:
