Session 1: The basic requirements of the course

The structure of the course, and assignment design.
Homework: Write two assignment questions, which require students to respond to readings and respond to an analytical prompt that goes beyond compare/contrast. To be submitted and discussed in session 2.
Session 2: Reading and Using Sources
Thursday 21st March 12:15–1:45 pm (2A04) or
Monday 18th March 4:00–5:30 pm (2B02) (note that the Monday session is before the Thursday session)
Teaching reading and the use of sources
Homework: Design two in-class activities, one to promote close-reading, and one to help students use sources. To be submitted and discussed during session 3.

Scaffolding the research paper
The last session of the English 125 and English 126 workshops occur on the same day. Both groups will meet together for the first 45 minutes to discuss teaching composition at the freshman level, and then break out into two groups to develop course-specific pedagogy and assignments. The English 126 group will move to 2A05 on 4/18 and 3A04 on 4/22.
