Staff And Faculty Bios

The College Now administration at York College has five staff members.

BIOS:

Les Raphael, Director

Les Raphael is the Director of Academic Skills Immersion and School Outreach Programs and oversees (1) College Now, (2) Success to the Third Power (S3), (3) Prelude to Success, and (4) Late-Start, as well as co-representing York on the CUE Council, CUNY Summer in the City. He was the Director of the Credit ESL and CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) at York and one of the founding directors of the CUNY-wide CLIP program. He has extensive experience in the design, implementation, and supervision of college-wide programs.

Letitia Bridgeman, CoordinatorLetitia Bridgeman has been the full-time College Now Coordinator since March of 2005. Her duties include developing and maintaining effective relationships with the administration of partner high schools, coordinating and supervising the work of high school-based coordinators, and assisting the Director in managing personnel and budget. Ms. Bridgeman previously held the position of GEAR UP Liaison at M.S. 394 for Medgar Evers College.

Jeff Singer is the Assistant Coordinator of College Now and has been in the field of education for 36 years.  He has taught high school English for 13 years and has been involved in alternative education and drop-out prevention for over 23 years as the founder and first director of the Bryant Alternative School and then as the Coordinator of Vocational Training Center (VTC) to two sites, Long Island University and York College.  Mr. Singer has been an adjunct instructor of English at York College.

Mark Goldberg is the Assistant Coordinator for Guidance and is responsible for guiding teachers and students and observing non-college credit classes, and ensuring that College Now guidelines are followed at the partner high schools. He began teaching social studies at Springfield Gardens and then moved to Far Rockaway and became Drug Education prevention Counselor, then Project Achieve Coordinator and then Assistant Principal for Pupil Personnel Service.

Katrina Cooper is the Administrative Assistant and is responsible for the management of all data and records for the program.
