At York College, Teacher Education is not a major by itself.  Students wishing to teach major in a subject and take supporting courses and do field work preparing them to take licensing exams qualifying them to teach. 

  • Adolescence Education Program inMathematics, grades 7 - 12
    Students aspiring to become mathematics teachers in a junior high, or high school, can prepare by enrolling in our  Mathematics Adolescence Education Program. Upon completing the program and the mathematics major, graduates will be eligible to apply for New York State initial certification to teach mathematics, grades 7 - 12.

  • Program in Adolescence Education for the Natural Sciences, grades 7-12
    This specialization is open only to those students who wish to teach Biology, Chemistry, or Earth Science at grade levels 7 through 12. Students selecting this specialization must major in the subject area in which they plan to teach.

  • Adolescence Education Program in Spanish, grades 7 - 12
    Students aspiring to teach Spanish in a junior high, or high school, can prepare by enrolling in our Spanish Adolescence Education Program. Upon completing the Program and the Spanish major, graduates will be eligible to apply for New York State initial certification to teach Spanish, grades 7 - 12.
