CUNY Environmental Health and Safety Audit Result at York

Dear Colleagues,

On February 11 and 13, a team from the CUNY Environmental Health and Safety Central Office and from another college campus performed an internal audit at York College. Most of York's campus was inspected. The leadership of the audit team has concluded that the overall audit of the College was good, the Environmental Health and Safety Office shows leadership and that the College complied with the standards required by EPA, OSHA and other Government Agencies . The auditing team also recognized the efforts and hard work from the entire campus; the University EHS Director mentioned that there is always a full house of faculty and staff attending the EHS trainings.

There were many departments that did exceptionally well on the audit. These include Chemistry, Biology, Earth and Physical Sciences, Medical Technology, Occupational Therapy, Behavioral Science, Fine Arts, Buildings and Grounds, Custodial, Public Safety, Graphic Arts, Receiving, Food Service, Library, and IT Departments. However, there were several areas that still had a few problems. Pictures and comments will be sent to those departments with problem areas.

We would like to thank every department for their cooperation in following the required procedures to make this audit a success. We hope that the suggestions given to us by the auditors will continue to be followed and be established as part of normal operating procedure.

All our collective efforts have led to York not only having a successful audit but also to creating an environmentally healthy and safe campus.
