JAMAICA, NY- The York College men's basketball team defeated Hunter College Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the CUNY/ Con Edison Basketball Championships. The Cardinals will now battle rival Brooklyn College on Wednesday at CCNY at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are free but are limited. They can be picked up at the athletic office, located in the health and physical education building.

Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez scored a career-high 36 points, handed out eight assists and made a number of key buckets down the stretch to lead the York College men's basketball team to an 88-84 win over Hunter College in the semi-finals of the 2010 CUNYAC/ Con Edison Men's Basketball Championships.

The pairings have been announced for the upcoming CUNY Athletic Conference basketball championships. The men's basketball team, the top seed in the playoffs, will host #8 CCNY on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., while the women, the fifth seed, will visit fourth-seeded Staten Island on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Nkrumah Named CUNYAC Athlete of the Year, Thomas Pope Named Coach of the Year

York College junior Alexandra Nkrumah has been named the 2008-09 CUNYAC Track Athlete of the Year and York head coach Thomas Pope has earned CUNYAC Coach of the Year Honors. In addition, juniors Taneisha Renaud and Shanine Bogan were named to the CUNYAC All-Star team. On the men’s side, sophomore Kenny Jacquet was tabbed as a CUNYAC All-Star as well. The conference office announced the awards Friday afternoon.

York Athletics to Hold '80s Dance-a-thon to Benefit “Samaritan’s Feet”

The York College Student Athletics Advisory Committee, together with the York Athletics program, will hold an '80s Dance-a-thon on Friday November 5th at 7:00 p.m. 50 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to the couple that can dance the longest, while the other 50 percent will go to “Samaritan’s Feet,” an organization dedicated to distributing footwear to underprivileged children around the world.
